Mormon Newsroom released a video detailing a missionary’s experience in the Provo Missionary Training Center. The eight-minute clip shows missionaries from when they are dropped off at the MTC to when they depart to teach the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world. The video also includes a virtual tour of the two new MTC buildings that were completed in July 2017.
“The spirit you feel here on this campus is like none other,” said one missionary in the video. “You’re with people who are united in the same purpose that you are. It’s all about others and trying to become like Christ.”
According to the video, missionaries spend roughly six hours a day learning languages and studying the gospel. It’s not all work and no fun, though — the MTC also contains a gym where missionaries can play volleyball, basketball or participate in other forms of exercise. The cafeteria also serves as a gathering place where missionaries get to know one another. And the food’s not so bad, either.
“I love the endless chocolate milk,” one missionary said. “Really good.”
The MTC also contains a post office, bookstore, health clinic, laundry room and computer labs, Mormon Newsroom reported. Photos, artwork, inspirational scriptures, increased classroom space and natural light in the new MTC buildings also help missionaries feel prepared to preach the gospel when they leave, said several missionaries in the video.
“There’s nothing like it, to think that you’re going to get on a plane, land on the other side of the world and not come back for two years. That’s a pretty big deal,” said one elder.
A sister missionary agreed.
“You just go forward with faith knowing that the Lord’s on your side. You’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing,” she said.
Tickets for the MTC expansion open house are available through mtcopenhouse.lds.org and are free of charge. Tours will run July 31-Aug.19, with additional tours for BYU Education Week attendees Aug.21-25. Parking accommodations and shuttles will be provided.
