OTTAWA — The Canada Council for the Arts recently announced the winners of the 2016 Governor General’s Literary Awards. Among the winners is Martine Leavitt, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who won for her book titled “Calvin.”

The GG Awards promote Canadian literature, according to ggbooks.ca. The awards include seven categories in French and English. “Calvin” was the English-language winner in the Young People’s Literature category. The GG Awards are administered by the Canada Council for the Arts. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Governor General’s Literary Awards.

Leavitt is a resident of Alberta, and currently a visiting professor at the Brigham Young University, according to information from the school.

She is also the author of several award-winning novels, including “Keturah and Lord Death,” which was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2006.
